What is Notting Hill Carnival?

Notting Hill Carnival is a giant street festival in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea - an affluent and multicultural area full of colourful houses. Notting Hill Carnival is completely free to attend and filled with wonderful music and great vibes. Notting Hill is one of the main places in London with a nice Caribbean community and the Notting Hill Carnival is their way of joining together to celebrate where they come from while enjoying their heritage as they’re living away from home. The massive parts of Caribbean culture that Notting Hill Carnival celebrates are our food, drinks and music.

Notting Hill Carnival always takes place on the August Bank Holiday Weekend. This year carnival celebrations will kick off with a steel band competition from 4 pm until 11 pm on Saturday 24th August 2024. Family Day/Children Parade is on Sunday 25th August (make sure to check out our articles on what to expect on Notting Hill Carnivals family day). We will be sharing our tips on how to make it one of the best days this summer!). The adult parade will be on Monday 26th August, kids are allowed but remember the music will be louder and expect a larger crowd than on Sunday.

2024 will mark the 56th year of Notting Hill Carnival making it one of the longest-running street parties the world has on offer. As you read more of the articles to come in our mini-series on Notting Hill Carnival you’ll see why the Notting Hill Carnival is loved across the world...
